Back Again…The Incredible!
Peace,
What’s good famo? It’s been a lot that has happened in the almost YEAR since I’ve posted to my own site! Life has been filled with many ups and downs since last November and I’d like to say if you are reading this, I am grateful that you are still here with us. Musically, we even put a new album earlier in May called #trueOGseries Vol. 2: New Day Co-Op, so consider this blog a “catch up” as I am on a social media hiatus while creating new projects in the meantime.
What’s going to happen with this blog is I’ll try to divide my streams-of-thought into categories so it doesn’t read as one giant paragraph. The first thing on my mind..?
DEAD RAPPERS
It’s hard to believe so many pioneers of our craft have transitioned in just the past 7 months alone. It all started for me with MF DOOM, who is arguably one of the greatest “underground” emcees to ever touch a mic. I’ve looked up to his work since I was 14 (when MM..Food & Madvillainy dropped) and I had plans of one day meeting him and even collaborating. That will never happen in this world face-to-face. Same goes for Shock G, DMX and the list goes on - literally.
Sometimes it’s hard to grasp how time moves but we need to cherish our legends while they are still here. Let them know, “Hey, you did good work and you won’t be forgotten.” They are the ones who laid the foundation for us to take the craft to the next level. Their unique individuality while still being united under the banner of Hip Hop is the example we should take from them, even when their message wasn’t always “politically correct” for the masses. No one says they were perfect. A lot of our social problems stem from what their generations did (I’m a 90’s kid so think two generations before me) but we can honor their legacies while realizing that their politics (esp. around homosexuality, gender, etc.) needed to change. The world isn’t a static place and, if anything, these legends passing away is a stark reminder to take advantage of the time you do have on Earth.
Side note: Shoutout to Normani for paying homage to Aaliyah with her new song. If you are a real student of the culture not only do you know the original sample, you also understand that it makes sense for someone who grew up on a certain kind of music to want to continue that “conversation”. A lot of the James Brown stuff that early Hip Hop sampled, for instance, wasn’t even 15-20 years old at that point in the 80’s and 90’s. I bet you the people back then were saying the same things people now are saying about this song, too. I think it’s fly, though.
Running Away
A look into my reasons for this social media hiatus. Reclaim your peace of mind!
Bareface Scarface Remixes
Yo! We have some great fans out there, for real. Shoutout to GG & Greg Peck for the cool remixes of the last single “Bareface Scarface”. It’s always interesting to hear how you influence other people, I really appreciate that. We are still working on getting shirts and more merch to take this offline, too. Of course, you can check out the original along with the entire album on every music service here.
Song of the Week
Ayo, just when you thought you heard it all.. 🤯
Alright, I’ll be back. Take it easy famo.
